Reimbursement - part 2

Karla D. Baker

Here he sits peeling back the skin that has hardened,
Within his soul he feels anguish, but soothes his pain diligently,
Closing his eyes as the memories are rehearsed,
Her body being touched upon by him, her other lover,
He was once weak, but now he has regained his strength,
Believing in his heavenly father to put his hands upon his head,
Oh, how the heat penetrated down to his heart,
Warming he within,
Thoughts came upon as he tore a check from the book,
With his pen he writes "reimbursement" to her,

Here is the repayment for the loan:

The rent/mortgage that we shared,
For the food that was consumed,
For the laundry that she washed,
For the gas that filled the car,
For the luxury of being able to make love to her,
For the times that she consoled,
For the tears that she wiped,
For the smile that she gave,
For the shoulders to lean on,
For the laughs that we shared,
For expressing concern,
For the cares,
For feeling temporary love for her,
For sharing our space with another man,
For giving herself putting it in him's hands,
For kissing, hugging, and believing him's fairy tales,
For achieving the goal of burning he's soul,
For breaking he as his heart crumbled into pieces of misery,
For leaving he behind to conquer his dismay alone,

Here is the reimbursement for setting he free,
Life couldn't be sweeter as he signs the check towards new beginnings,
Sealing it within the envelope and mailing his past away,
Stamping it with a picture of her for remembrance,
Sighing…then mailing it to her new address,
Reimbursement in full…
As he moves forward in life,
Forwarding his past to its proper receiver,
Waiting for confirmation of his endorsed check,
He is single,
Freeing his mind and body to love again.
