Write Makes Might Mini Marathon

img_9524aReaders from all NYWC workshops are invited to share the stage for this annual marathon reading. Reflecting the rich diversity of NYC, this event features a myriad of writers with previously untapped talent.

On Saturday, June 20, 2009, the house was packed at the Jefferson Market Library, as NY Writers Coalition broke records. Forty-five writers from NYWC workshops read their original poetry and prose, non-stop from 1PM until the library closed at 5. A huge diversity of voices from eleven different workshops—serving the homeless, the formerly incarcerated, seniors, war veterans, Latino immigrants, and survivors of serious illness—thrilled the audience. People came from as far away as a busload of teens from Western Massachusetts to listen. Attention was rapt, through readings in English and Spanish.

The words of the readers entertained, moved, and inspired an audience that was remarkable for its stamina (four hours!), enthusiasm, and respect.

The 6th Annual Write Makes Might Mini Marathon proved once again the power of writing to create community.
