Nicholas Dawidoff

Nicholas Dawidoff is the author of four books. One of them, The Fly Swatter, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist, and another, In the Country of Country, was named one of the greatest all-time works of travel literature by Conde Nast Traveller. His first book, The Catcher Was A Spy: The Mysterious Life Of Moe Berg was a national bestseller and appeared on many 1994 best book lists. His most recent book is The Crowd Sounds Happy: A Story of Love, Madness and Baseball. He is also the editor of the Library of America’s Baseball: A Literary Anthology. A graduate of Harvard University, he has been a Guggenheim, Civitella Ranieri and Berlin Prize Fellow, and is a Contributing Writer to The New YorkerThe New York Times Magazine, Rolling Stone, and the American Scholar.    He’s been the Anschutz Distinguished Fellow at Princeton University where he sometimes still teaches. The Crowd Sounds Happy won a NAMI Book Prize for writing about mental illness.

Join the NYWC Write-A-Thon website and take the 3k word challenge!

This is the first year that we are offering the chance for you to Write Your A** Off from anywhere!  We’ve created the challenge of writing 3,000 words (about 10 pages) in one day, and we know you can do it!

Our FREE Write-A-Thon site features discussion forums, a prompt station, online workshops, resources to help you on June 12th (as well as before and after), chances to connect with other Write-A-Thonners and much more.   Click here to sign up!

You can use the site at any time, and on June 12th be sure to log on to get prompts, get support, tell us about your progress, and get inspired by best-selling novelist Jennifer Belle! (see below)

There is no cost to participate in Write Your A** Off Day with us, but you can also join us at beex.org, an exciting new site that allows you to  create personal challenges and get support from friends and family while helping NYWC’s free programs.  We will have prizes for top fundraisers, including a $250 gift certificate to Better World Books.

Jennifer Belle

Jennifer Belle is the best-selling author of four novels, The Seven Year Bitch, published May, 2010, Little StalkerHigh Maintenance, and Going Down.  Her critically acclaimed novels have been translated into many languages and optioned for film and television by Madonna, Das Films, HBO and Fox.
